Pollo Tropical "Pollo Talks - Ropa Vieja"
Director: Sherman Johnson
Pollo Tropical “Pollo Talks – Ropa Vieja” is a documentary-style commercial directed and photographed by Sherman Johnson for Pollo Tropical and Macias Creative. Produced by Yiya Garcia and Chad Tingle for Zipper Films and filmed in Miami, Florida, the campaign was shot inside a working Pollo Tropical restaurant using real crew members rather than actors. Created to promote the return of Pollo Tropical’s Ropa Vieja offerings, the campaign highlights the preparation and presentation of the slow-cooked shredded beef featured across multiple menu items, including tostones, TropiChops, and quesadillas. By combining real employees, working kitchens, and authentic food preparation, the film showcases both the product and the people behind the brand. Shot on Sony FX6 cameras, the visual approach embraces a naturalistic documentary style with minimal artificial lighting. Filmed during normal restaurant operations, the campaign captures genuine interactions, kitchen activity, and food preparation moments, creating an authentic portrait of the Pollo Tropical experience while celebrating one of the brand’s most recognizable Cuban-inspired dishes.
